DJ Bruno |
Having been
raised in a Caribbean Hispanic household, from early
on, Bruno Robles was exposed to rhythmic music, predominantly
of afro-cuban nature. It was no surprise that from
an early age Bruno had a lively interest in music,
pursuing lessons in percussion, keyboard and vocals.
Armed with his developing music sense, he quickly
developed an appreciation for the Italian underground
disco sound that was very fashionable in Miami in
the mid 80’s. With guidance from established
dj’s in the Miami scene, he visited local import-record
shops were he was exposed to many different new sounds
of music including the early traces of house. Still
a “bedroom dj”, he was encouraged by friends
to spin at local underground parties, mainly for friends.
Through time, his innovative sound quickly caught-on
and was hired as DJ for an organized day poolside
party at a Miami Beach hotel (which later turned into
a night party in the ballroom).
Being in Miami Beach made him more accessible to
talent thirsty promoters and was often solicited for
private parties. Having such influences as Angel Moraes,
Junior Vasques, Victor Calderone and Danny Tennaglia,
Circa 1995, his style shifted and he gained a reputation
for spinning quality house. The Miami Beach club boom
was in full effect and it didn’t take long before
he was doing club appearances. One of the very first
was at The Arch Club (later to become the infamous
Club Chaos). Simultaneously, he was offered various
jobs including opening for Eddie X at The Warsaw Ballroom,
a South Beach Institution at the time and host to
a wide gamma of better known DJ’s. He did several
appearances at Liquid which was one of the first to
re-introduce the mega club to the SoBe scene. Soon
after, he was booked directly by South beach powerhouse
The Living Room where he met his current business
partner, and a local favorite, Cedric Gervais. Both
now working in conjunction producing and DJ’ing.
Bruno has now played alongside some of the better
known names in the industry including Timo Maas, Mr.C,
Oscar G. and Ralph falcon (Murk), Robbie Rivera, Cedric
Gervais and Ivanno Bellini (other local favorites),
and Grammy award winners Roger Sanchez and Paul Harris
(Dirty Vegas) as well as Ibizas’ very own, and
European favorite, Tania Vulcano. Through a natural
progression, his style currently encompasses an eclectic
mix raging from progressive and tribal house to techno
and progressive trance. Staying focused is also a
priority due to the amount of food on Bruno’s
plate !, you can catch him Thursdays (upstairs) and
Saturdays (Main Room) at Crobar (that also plays host
to a Myriad of world renowned DJ’S and events).
Alongside his wife, of Avenue33 productions, they
host and organize Squeeze Fridays at Lime Bar were
you can find Bruno both hard at work throwing down
some dirty beats and “hanging” with loyal
patrons. Sundays you will find Bruno spinning under
the stars at the Ibiza-esque Nikki Beach club for
the on-going Indio Loco party.
Clubbing aside, Bruno has been also featured on
Telemundo/NBC’s MUN2 network “No Cover”
dance music show. David Orth, Producer/Host of “No
Cover” was quoted as saying “ DJ Bruno
has played just as good if not better than any guest
DJ we’ve had on the show… His mixing and
track selection are top-notch and he brought an energy
to the set that was impossible to bring down.”
His latest endeavor is preparing a set to be featured
for Binetti’s Spring/Summer 2004 fashion show
in Bryant Park, NYC.
Bruno continues the development of his career, and
above all, trying to please his on-going, continually
growing following. As per nightlife internet magazine
cooljunkie.com: “DJ Bruno was rocking the decks
of Lime Bar all night long! Great party music consisting
of some very nice House/Tribal House mixed up nicely;
he definitely had the place going crazy.”
